BYZANTINE ESTATE

In the mind of George Nassioutzik, the fundamental concept of “Estate”, which he refers to as the “place”, was conceived early in the 1960’s after his return from the United States of America. A friendly “place full of memories and experiences distinguished by exclusive hospitality and a sense of humanity. George Nassioutzik adores passionately this “place” which becomes the destination of all he passionately loves. Greece and authenticity, wandering and tradition, art and history, a sensse of “metron” and nature, time and silence. In order for the dream to take shape it required as is always the case persistence, hard work, time and total commitment. Answers were revealed after decoding the idiosyncratic “DNA” hidden in various objects and in nature. The age old stones from different parts of Greece, planks from floors of Aghion Oros, materials from demolished tobacco shops in Kavala and masions in Kastoria, slates beams, elaborate woodwork and tiles, the hand made Suzani, the Byzantine icons, and the thousand year old olive trees became the very first “raw materials” of the estate. Today, the Nassioutzik Estate is a complted project while silmutaneously incomplete in the sense that it is being continuously renovated .It is a work created by one person, which fully gains its meaning when it welcomes its visitors.
